Oyabe is a city of roughly 33,000 people located near the western border
of Toyama prefecture in central Japan. Nearby are the cities of Fukumitsu,
Fukuoka, Fukuno, and Tonami City, which can be reached quickly and conveniently
by car or rail. Neighboring Ishikawa prefecture is also just a short train
ride away, allowing for easy access to Tsubata and Kanazawa.
Oyabe takes pride in its green scenery and untouched nature. There are
many natural landmarks, including waterfalls and Mt.Inaba, which rises
346 meters above the hilly northwestern landscape. The southeastern region
of Oyabe has vast plains and flatlands, which make the area ideal for rice
and grain production. The clear waters of the Oyabe River cut through the
region, flowing to the north and emptying into the Sea of Japan.
Oyabe City is relatively small and quiet, but has become increasingly urbanized
in recent years. The sportswear, machinery, and metals industries are steadily
expanding, and shopping districts and larger shopping centers are becoming
more prevalent. However, farming and industry remain healthy. Agriculture
plays a large role here, where approximately 90% of the 2699 hectares of
paddy fields are currently being cultivated.
